A few weeks back, I curated a list of books for educators. Initially, it was an attempt to make a list with five books, but the list got extended to fifteen after I had a few exchanges with my friends who are also working in the Education sector.

Generally, I feel there are so many good books to put up a short list. However, an essential list is something that can be created.

The exercise has been helpful. With many educators appreciating the list, and also sharing it with fellow educators. It aptly demonstrates the idea — together we learn, together we progress.

I found some motivation myself, thus prepared this second list. This list is particularly special as it includes some amazing literature from Africa. As educators, wouldn’t it be amazing to learn from each other, always?

Without further delay, I am listing the books below:

  1. Decolonising the Mind: The Politics of Language in African Literature by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o (Kenya)
  2. The African Child by Camara Laye (Guinea)
  3. Weep Not, Child by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o (Kenya)
  4. So Long a Letter by Mariama Bâ (Senegal)
  5. The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born by Ayi Kwei Armah (Ghana)

Happy Reading!

I hope you will gain valuable perspectives on education in Africa.
