An Essential Reading List for Educators
A curated list. Recommended by experienced educators.
Often as educators, we are always occupied with the daily affairs at the school/kindergarten.
‘Time flies’, they say, and it seems to be correct.
There are days when we leave the workplace with stress and days when we can’t stop smiling. Perhaps, this is what creates a balance, and the passion for the profession remains alive.
As I write this post, I am excited. The excitement for being able to share this list with educators across the world through this post.
This is a small list with just fourteen books, that I feel can immensely benefit teachers:
- Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window — Tetsuko Kuroyanagi
- The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything — Ken Robinson
- Tuesdays with Morrie — Mitch Albom
- What is Worth Teaching? — Dr Krishna Kumar
- Teaching on Your Feet (audio format )— Rita Pierson
- Pedagogy of the Oppressed — Paulo Freire
- Visible Learning — John Hattie
- Education and the Significance of Life — J. Krishnamurti
- Summerhill — A. S. Neill
- Sofie’s World — Jostein Gaarder
- Divaswapna — Gijubhai Badheka
- danger: School! — Paulo Freire
- How Children Learn — John C. Holt
- Chicken Soup for the Teacher’s Soul — Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen
The purpose of this post is also to gain more recommendations from teachers who read this post. Kindly use the comment section of this post to share your list. I will add them to this list.
I look forward to your recommendations.
edit 1: Thanks to my friends, Raman and Pragya for their recommendations, the list has now grown.
